Audio Modeling pioneered Synchronous Waves Acoustic Modeling or SWAM for short, which excells at bringing realtime expression into virtual instruments. Ideally suited for controllers that support MIDI polyphonic expression (MPE) or breath controllers, SWAM instruments can faithfully reproduce the natural expression that a real player would give to an acoustic instrument such as vibrato, portamento, growl, flutter tounge, etc.

Contrary to sample based instruments, SWAM instruments are physically modeled i.e., no samples. With SWAM you aren't buying an library of 2,000 sounds, rather an engine that let's you design and create tones for endless combinations articulations and expression.

These instruments are based on physical modeling. So it is possible to control the main mechanical variables in real time. For example, the velocity controls the attack of the sound and the portamento time, as well when playing legato. The Mod. Wheel can control the vibrato and any foot pedal can be assigned to the expression. There is indeed no limit to the number of possible combinations.
