Sometimes, you need the full force of a large ensemble, sometimes, you need the direct intimacy only a small ensemble can offer. And sometimes, you want to add the transparent tonality and immediacy of the closer-mic’d group to the lushness of the large group at varying levels. This unique series makes all this possible, offering the best of both worlds – a large ambient string ensemble and a dry chamber-sized ensemble with 100% matching performances. Whether you use them together or separately, the Synchron Duality Strings Series delivers a magnificent sound with unprecedented flexibility and countless expressive possibilities, from intimate intensity to passionate power and everything in between.

Synchron Duality Strings (regular) — Comprised two string ensembles that were sampled at once, playing in separate rooms at Synchron Stage Vienna. While the larger ensemble played in the famous main hall, Stage A, the smaller ensemble was recorded in the relatively dry Stage B. Both ensembles performed together, with the conductor on the podium in Stage A also directing the ensemble in Stage B via video monitors.

Synchron Duality Strings (sordino) — Warm, rounded, mellow – these muted string ensembles add another layer of expression and sonority to your small and large string sections with a beautiful velvety timbre that’s still bursting with variety. Con sordino (played with mute) adds a rich softness to the violin’s tone but it also brings a mysterious, almost ethereal quality to the music. With the mute placed on the bridge the sound takes on a veiled, filtered character. Gentle yet present, this tone is ideal for creating a subtle, intimate atmosphere. These strings might be played with a mute but definitely won’t elicit muted responses from your listeners.

Synchron Duality Strings (colors) — It is fascinating in how many ways the sound of a stringed instrument can be shaped just by how and where you apply the bow. Each section of a string ensemble is therefore capable of producing a kaleidoscope of colors and subtle timbres that can paint evocative and transcendent musical landscapes. This third installment of Synchron Duality Strings offers the main articulations of the series in soft as well as eerie and glassy tonal colors, depending on whether the notes are played flautando (close to the fingerboard) or ponticello (close to the bridge).
